The year is 1939, the weather is perfect, the waves are perfect, and there’s some guy standing on his longboard before paddling into his wave.. what!?
For the past 10 years, the growth of Stand Up Paddleboarding has been exponential. It means that ‘surfing’ is no longer contained to the coast and no longer has the entry barrier of ability to perform a quick arm paddle and athletic pop to get going. Paddleboarding now allows for watermen and everywhere to use any body of water as their own personal SUP playground.
The problem with Paddleboarding is the board. They’re enormous. They’re outrageously large, unwieldy and often heavy. The combination of length, width, and weight make them harder to maneuver than grandma’s old sofa. This makes them great on the water but what do you do with a 12’+ long, 25+ lb. board that on average costs well over $1500? You do NOT just throw it on the garage floor. These monster boards look tough but over time, enough dried salt water, sand and careless dings will quickly render your paddleboard a display piece.
Just like anything of quality that you own, you take care of it. Just like a car, if you treat it right, it will last you a lifetime. Luckily with a paddleboard it can be easy if done correctly. If you’re coming late to this party, we’re about to talk about paddleboard racks. There are a few out there, and even a few good options, but today we’re going to tell you about our own and why it’s really your only option.
The O’ahu Series by Grassracks. There are a few obvious and some not-so-obvious reasons that this Series should be trusted with the valued members of your quiver.

It’s not just a paddleboard rack, it’s a way to show the world what you do and a way to keep your favorite memories alive.
Where are your boards right now? What do you do for storage? Tell us and you could win an O'ahu of your own.
Going "green," it used to have a sandal-wearing, granola-eating, Hippie connotation that, for some reason, people looked down upon. The problem is, last time I checked, sandals are super comfortable, granola is delicious and nutritious, and Hippies are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The tides are finally changing and people are starting to realize that the ‘progress at any cost’ mentality isn’t really working. After all, if the environment fails and can’t support life, the products we have won’t matter anyway.
So here’s your crash course to thinking and becoming a greener human person. Before we get into renewable energy and cars that run on vegetable oil, it’s important to start to change the way you view things.
For example, does it really make sense to individually wrap slices of cheese? (Hint: the answer is “No” or “No. No. A thousand times, NO!”) Of course not! But it’s easy to think that since a company is doing it, it must be OK.
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. We’ve all heard the adage but how does one make that a part of their life?
Reduce - the amount of waste we produce. It's a great place to start. According to the EPA, Americans alone produce 164 million tons of unrecycled or composted trash every year. That's 328,000,000,000 lbs of trash a year.. Take a second to think about that one. There's even a continent forming in the Pacific Ocean called The Trash Vortex (Google "trash island" or "trash vortex" for pictures). For a species that has the advancement to create things like smart phones, satellites, and grow graphene, it's time to turn our attentions a little more towards our home and how we can take care of it. To get us started acting and thinking in the right direction, here are a some every day easy changes that can immediately make an impact.
There is even the entire art of repurposing (<= click)
The point isn’t to wake up one day and say “I’m going to forgo anything touched by man”, it’s just to start questioning some of the things that we accept as “how things have always been” and start making little changes. Your first inclination might be to think that it’s a hassle but you can do it, you’re a smart, evolved mammal.Do an exercise. Take one minute and try to think of 3 easy ways to implement the ‘reducing’ principle into your life. If you have a few good ones please leave them below!
For watermen everywhere, chafing is a problem and, no, we’re not talking about armpits and nipples. As men, we very often follow the ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ mantra which can get us in a lot of trouble.. In the case of water sports this is applied to us getting so excited to Surf/Paddleboard/Wake/etc. that we don’t take a second to think about important things like sunscreen or chafing.
Most water sports require a lot of leg movement which dictates that other things will move as well. For repetitive motions against often unforgiving materials, there exists a very irritating problem for important soft-skin appendages found ‘downstairs’. Soft, sensitive, uncalloused skin on hallowed parts rubbing on materials not meant for such delicate things.
As is often true in life, we men have be saved by the careful consideration of thoughtful ladies. The concerned ladies at TURQ Sport have taken it upon themselves to put an end to irritating and embarrassing man part chafing by creating a Swim brief that keeps us in place with a soft gentle fabric. Their briefs cut down on movement while employing an incredibly soft quick-dry material thus ending our post watersport chafe.
Personally, I was apprehensive because I thought it would be uncomfortable wearing another layer whilst shredding gnar waves but I quickly realized that the my TURQs are absurdly comfortable. If it was deemed acceptable by society, I’d only wear them with no board shorts at all.
Take a second and check them out. We promise you won't be disappointed. TURQ Swimbrief
Guys, we can’t be the only ones. Have you run into this problem? Wouldn’t you love to sport the Marky Mark Calvin Klein look with a comfortable pair of camo undies and protect your valuables?
Recently one of our good friends, Dan, supported us by purchasing a Rackcycle. For those of you who aren't familiar with our Bike Racks, they are masterfully crafted bamboo wall racks that are contemporary in design and incredibly functional. Now, Dan is a young urban professional and needed a nice-looking way to make his limited space efficient and keep his wheels out of the way. Dan's a very competent dude but, like many, didn't have much experience with tools/home decorating/etc.
Early into our conversation I realized that there might be a need for further instruction with installation. Exhibit A
In an age where humility and privacy is all but gone it’s difficult to stay out of the critical scrutiny of the public eye. Going shopping, taking a jog, and even going for a leisurely paddle in the lake could yield an absurd amount of unwanted attention, but no more.
Luckily for paddlers that crave a serene trip around the lake without all of the celebrity attention: Bote Boards has the answer.
It’s called The Bote HD [RealTree ®] and it is awesome. I stumbled upon this beauty whilst searching for an outfit for an upcoming Camo Ball (recently made fashionable by the wiley men of Duck Dynasty) and my prayers were answered.
The Bote HD [RealTree ®] now gives paddlers a way to blend into their surroundings, remaining almost completely unseen while on the water so take a quick look and welcome back your privacy.

Founded on the principals of gorgeous, functional, and eco-friendly products, Grassracks’ choice to use bamboo was an easy one. Engrained in societies all over the world, bamboo encompasses everything that we strive to be as a brand.
Like spinach to Popeye, bamboo is Earth’s real super resource. It’s common knowledge that bamboo is incredibly strong and makes for a great venue for martial arts movie fight scenes, but the true versatility of bamboo is often overlooked.
For thousands of years, bamboo has been used as a source of nourishment, super soft cloth, and construction material. Today, bamboo is still used as scaffolding for buildings up to 60 stories tall and with developments in processing techniques, is now being made into a high-quality and stunning home décor and material. To top it all off, bamboo is the strongest renewable material in the world with a higher tensile strength than steel. Its ability to grow up to a foot a day makes it the most sustainable and eco-friendly building material on the market.
Bamboo’s traits make it, without question, the best material for our products. Gorgeous fibrous grain, incredible strength, and uber-sustainability are among the countless reasons that it has been charged to garnish your living space with our racks and home décor.
Easy installation. You've read about it, heard whispers about it, dreamed about it, but does this thing of the future really exist? With our proprietary Wall Mounting System, it does.
Everyone has purchased an 'easy-to-install' product that takes them multiple hours, pain, and hair-pulling frustration to put together. Perhaps something purchased from a place that rhymes with Shmikea.. For something as simple as a dresser, you give up your morning and your daily dose of patience and sanity but for what? Grassracks has tackled the challenge of making beautiful AND incredibly strong racks and decor but that wasn't our only mission when designing our line. We sought to make something that got your boards, bikes, or skis up and displayed quickly and safely. Here are some facts about the line that make it awesome.
- The Grassracks Sport Rack lines can be installed in under a minute and, when installed properly, can hold over 175 lbs.
- The modular nature of our line allows for easy takedown and switching of cradles without having to unfasten the rack from the wall. This allows you to change easily from a Snowboard rack to a Surf (or Ski, SUP, Bike, Shelf, etc.) rack in seconds and allows you to create space easily should you need it.
- Mounting Bars are pre-drilled to standard stud width. (Yes, we recommend that you drill directly into studs)
- Cradles are designed with the same hook feature so they all fit easily but tightly onto the Mounting Bar
Without further ado here is a run through of what you'll expect with an installation into drywall..
Step 1: Locate wall studs using a stud finder.
Step 2: Decide on the perfect location for your Grassrack. Some measuring to ensure centered installation is recommended
Step 3: Once studs are located you can decide if the use of drywall anchors are needed. Screws must go directly into a stud OR a drywall anchor, never into drywall alone and never both a drywall anchor and stud on the same screw. (Note that with old or oddly-spaced walls, some pre-drilled holes may not hit studs.) Using the mounting bar, determine the location of adherence for each screw by holding the Mounting bar at the desired location and pushing screw lightly through the pre-drilled holes to leave a small indent. At each indent that requires a drywall anchor, tap and hand drill the anchor into the wall until it is flush with the drywall.
Step 4: With a bamboo spacer between wall and Mounting Bar, loosely screw the middle screw to the wall.
Step 5: Level the Mounting Bar and fasten the two (or one for short bars) remaining screws. Make sure to hold the Mounting Bar against the wall at the desired level when fastening screws to keep from the screw affecting the level. Now you can make sure each screw is tightened.
Step 4: Hang cradles or shelving on Mounting Bar.
Step 5: Do a dance, you are finished!
It's not just easy, it's ridiculously easy. It's almost too easy.
Ever been ashamed to tell people that you surf, snowboard, ski, skimboard, paddleboard, skate, longboard, bike, or do any other board sport? Of course not! They're all awesome!
We at Maholla are extremely proud of our sports, but always ended up throwing our various boards in the basement, closet, or garage until the next time we needed them. Most of our boards have gorgeous artwork on them, or are, themselves, a piece of art. But we can't enjoy these masterpieces when they are locked in a dingy, dusty garage. Upon a late-night epiphany, we vowed to say 'goodbye' to the poorly-stored, hidden, dinged-up, moldy, musty board situation. And just like that, Grassracks came to be.
Together with the Maholla Products ideals of high-quality eco-conscious products, great customer service, and social responsibility, Grassracks gives you an alternative to basement storage. Grassracks’ mission is to create a line of functional AND stylish board racks and shelving (with more to come in the near future). Using super strong, beautifully grained, and very sustainable bamboo, we’re giving board sport athletes the chance they’ve needed to organize, save space, and display their boards in a deserving manner.
No more hidden boards. No more bland walls. No more cluttered garages, basements, and closets. Be proud of your board and show it off!
